Yarvard Crimson Tide vs Tech Fighting Irish

The second match in the European Theater of Operations Football Championship in Northern Ireland in Autumn 1942 was played at Inver Park, Larne, which had a capacity of 2,000. This time Yarvard Crimson Tide, stung by their surprise defeat to Hale a week previously at Ravenhill, Belfast, took on Tech Fighting Irish from the Engineering Division.

Despite the eagerness to make up for defeat the week previously, Yarvard could not get past the halfway line in the first half, with the ball “entirely in Yarvard’s half of the field” all of the half. At one point in the first half Tech’s Carl Barker nearly had a touchdown catch from Ernest Passimoni the Fighting Irish Quarterback, but the ball “Skidded past his fingers” in the endzone.

In the second half the Crimson Tide took to the air again as they did in the second half at Ravenhill. This time it yielded success – John Henry receiving a Touchdown Pass from quarterback Anton Verbeck to give Yarvard a 6-0 third quarter lead after a 69 yard drive involving rushing by Rush Moore and passes to Henry (Armando Lopez’s Point After Kick failed).

In the fourth quarter Tech’s Quarterback Ernest Passimoni, starting on his own one yard line, was tackled in the endzone for a safety worth two points.
