Report

The Super 10s / 9s Competition was introduced by the Australian Rules Football League of Ireland to help smaller teams play Footy. It also helped the ARFLI teams field seconds teams or give first team players more playing time.

It lasted from 2001 to 2011 after which it became a competition for Women. Midland Tigers won the first Super 10s in 2001, then there were three three-in-a-rows from Leeside Lions, Dublin Demons and South Dublin Sawns before Belfast Redbacks took the 2011 title.

Report

The Irish Warriors sailed through the Pool Stages of the Australian Football League International Cup 2014 in Melbourne defeating Fiji, France and Nauru before another good win against South African Lions in the Semi-Final.

In the Grand Final, however, they came against Papua New Guinea, the only other country where Australian Football is the National Sport, and were narrowly beaten 45-42 by the PNG team. It was heartbreak for the Irish Warriors to have come so close, but they could be proud of their magnificent performances throughout the tournament.

Mick Finn scored four goals to top score in the Grand Final, and Sean Paul Henry and Padraig Lucey each got one goal, but the Mosquitos got two late goals to snatch the victory.
