Recap
Montreal Alouettes completed a 30-13 victory over Edmonton Elks in an “assertive all-round” performance [CFL] that included 161 yards and one touchdown for punt returner Mario Alford.
Vernon Adams Jr threw 13 of 21 for 211 yards and 29 rushing and two touchdowns while Trevor Harris continued to struggle with 19 of 29 for 233 yards and one touchdown, although the Elks lost their second in a row after much off-season hype.
Edmonton was coming off a touchdown-less performance in week 1, and needed a big day from Harris, and appeared to have got that in the first drive, but a near-interception on the goal-line forced Sean Whyte to take as Field Goal. It was all Montreal after that in the first half, as Jake Weineke ran in a 42 yard pass from Vernon Adams Jr and then Mario Alford scored on an 86 yard Punt Return for Touchdown, sandwiched between two David Cote Field Goals as the Alouettes built a 20-3 Halftime lead.
The teams traded field goals in the third and early fourth quarters and then Vernon Adams Jr found BJ Cunningham in the endzone for 14 yards to cushion the lead. The boos rained down on the Edmonton players before Harris found Shai Ross, a player with an Irish name, for a touchdown with two minutes remaining, but that was all there was time for.
